HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - If you live in Huntsville or Madison County and have been wanting to get more involved in your community, listen up.
Did you know there are dozens of boards made up of citizens, helping make decisions for issues, county wide?
The city of Huntsville just launched a new section on its website for you to learn about them, and take the first step in applying.
Whether it’s art, nature, the hospital, whatever you’re passionate about, you can apply.
The mayor and city council will appoint new board members throughout the year when a position opens up.
Huntsville City Council President Jennie Robinson says the goal of moving everything online is to get a more diverse pool of applicants and make the opportunities more easily accessible to the public.
“We don’t have a lot of women serving on boards here in Huntsville and that’s not unusual. That’s an issue nationwide. The new online interest application will make it possible for people who we might not even know are interested in serving on a board, it will make it easier for them to let us know,” Robinson said.
There are over 60 different boards and commissions you can apply to serve on.
