Von Braun Center leaders talk about masking, capacity requirements

Masking, capacity for VBC events

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - We know Toyota Field is operating at full capacity this season, and the Havoc is at 37% capacity, but what about the rest of the Von Braun Center?

Alabama’s statewide mask mandate may have expired on Friday, but if you head to the VBC for any of their indoor events you will be required to keep your mask on.

Samantha Nielsen with the VBC said they’re doing this in accordance to Mayor Tommy Battle’s protocol that all city buildings require employees and guests to wear those masks until further notice, and if you don’t have one they will have disposable ones they can give you.

Now if you are going to their outside concert venue 3rd Rock, masks are not required but they are highly encouraged, according to Nielsen.

As far as the capacity requirements there’s no state mandate on that, but Nielsen said they’re operating at limited capacity because they’re still keeping their seats socially distanced.

“We are still actually operating at 40% in each of our venues because of socially distanced seating,” Nielsen said. “So with the pod groupings of twos and fours and blocking out the remaining seats our capacity is still reduced at this time.”

Nielsen said they are still operating under increased sanitation measures and that will stay for the foreseeable future.
